The University of the Third Age has its origins in Toulouse, France in the early 70's. UK U3A was formed 21 years ago and now has 540 independent U3A's and over 130,000 members. The organisation is for older people who have retired from full time employment. It enables members to share educations, creative and leisure activities. The organisation is low cost and has no entry requirement and gives no qualifications, other than members' personal satisfaction at taking on new activities and meeting new friends.
